The Egremont Crab Fair & Gurning competition

No it's not an online mirror!

This is the face of success! The highlight of the Egremont Crab Fair which includes such treats as fancy dress wheelbarrow races, ferret shows and racing up greased poles after a leg of lamb!!!

Since 1267, when King Henry III decreed that there be a fair on the site every year thereafter, the townspeople have enjoyed a long tradition of unusual events and interesting competitions. Spectacularly located in the beautiful Lake District, The Crab fair's main event is the famous gurning competition which has actually seen grown men having their teeth pulled out in order to pull a better face! The best part is, you don't even need to be ugly to enter! You're judged on the difference between the before and after face!

While we're in the area we may as well experience some of the Lake Districts finest sights and take a little boat trip on one of the lakes themselves. There's plenty to do in this area so we'll make sure you're kept nice and busy!

We'll also get the chance to stop off in the beautiful walled city of Chester, where Welshmen still can't roam after dark for fear of being shot by an arrow... as well as some other really wonderful places.
