Road Cycling - Spain - Picos de Europa
Our
‘signature road tour’ is based around the mountain
market town of Potes, in the heart of the northern Spanish
'Picos de Europa' mountain range.
Ideally
positioned to access the area, we tackle some of Europe’s
quietest and most undiscovered roads. Our initial accommodation
is a lovely family run bed and breakfast. Commanding superb
views of the Liebana Valley, it’s the perfect place
to relax and enjoy those post ride snoozes!
For
those of you who enjoy a fiesta, the vibrant nightlife of
nearby Potes is just a stroll away. For others, relaxing
at the accommodation, absorbing the views of the mountains
and reflecting on the biking is a perfect way to spend an
evening. Midway through the tour we ride to the lively town
of Cangas de Onis on the eastern side of the Picos Massif,
where we enjoy an evening of tapas and cider drinking in
the local ciderias.
Expect
to climb some serious mountains and to see some equally
serious scenery during the week. Along the way we will climb
high through dramatic gorges, descend twisty mountain passes
and get to sample the local culinary delights and potions
to the full.
8
days - Grade 3 - £615 (land only) with optional bike
hire (£120) and insurance. |

Classic
Road cycling - USA - 4 corners
The
Four Corners region of America’s Southwest stakes
claim to a dramatic and varied landscape. It’s a region
that offers the extremes of the deserts; from the red rock
canyons and high green and grey peaks of the San Juan Rocky
Mountains to the ancient Anasazi ruins of Mesa Verde National
Park.
Starting
out in the enchanted land of New Mexico, we spend our first
few days riding through the fantastic Navajo Nation, including
the Canyon de Chelly and Monument Valley. We then venture
into the famous National Parks of Arches and Canyonlands.
The cool high country of the La Sal Mountains offer stunning
views over the vast Utah wilds. We take a leisurely day
transfer into Mesa Verde National Park for some of the most
scenic and diverse riding of the tour.
The
San Juan mountain paradise of Telluride passes into wonderful
alpine terrain. Cycling the ‘Million Dollar Highway’
is truly one of the classic rides of North America. We follow
the Dolores River through the gold and silver mining town
of Rico and over Lizard Head Pass. We continue into the
‘wild west’ town of Durango for more unforgettable
riding; over Molas Divide and Coal Bank Hill Passes, both
well over 10,000 feet elevation. Durango also offers some
splendid local rides including Bakers Bridge, which was
the scene of Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid’s
famous waterfall jump. Alas
it’s time to start thinking about home but not before
taking a well-earned rest & a final mountain sized southwestern
feast. It’s been a truly diverse and challenging trip.
15
days - Grade 2 - £1795 (land only) with optional bike
hire (£150) and insurance. |
