Day 1;
After
meeting up in London we get the chance to get to know each
other whilst we head out of the city into the beautiful countryside
of Wiltshire, home of some of the worlds most ancient and
unexplained marvels, including our first stop; Stonehenge.
Contemplate the mysteries, facts and legends of Stonehenge
as we head on to the even more satisfying site of the Avebury
Stone Circles where you will get the opportunity
to walk amongst, touch and feel the power of these great stones
that were placed on the current site almost 5000 years ago.
Here we stop for lunch and perhaps take part in our own Carry
On Druidic ritual by sacrificing a sandwich or two to the
ancient pagan Gods!!! After
lunch we get a chance to see more ancient and mystical sites
that this beautiful area has to offer. The intriguing Silbury
Hill and one of the immense Iron Age chalk figures
carved by hand into the Wiltshire Downs, the White
Horse.
From
here we head off to our final destination for the night,
the untouched typically English village of Nympsfield in
Gloucestershire. Here we’ll get to meet the locals
and discuss the day’s adventures over a relaxing drink
in one of the only 5 remaining coaching inns in the UK.
Day
2;
After
breakfast we check out some of the wonderful views that
the Cotswolds
are famous for, before we say goodbye to England and venture
across the border into Wales, ‘the land of castles’.
Prepare yourself for the dramatic change in the landscape,
as we drive towards the rugged mountains of the magnificent
Snowdonia
National Park.
Our
first stop has been the site of many battles between Welsh
and English warriors. Set high on the hill against the stunning
backdrop of the Irish Sea and the imposing Snowdon mountains,
the formidable 13th Century Harlech castle has been the
site of no less than 14 sieges. Hear about some of the gruesome
and bloody battles that were fought on the very ground beneath
your feet. Picture yourself as a knight of olde fighting
for your Lord.
After reliving the adventures of this world heritage site,
we’ll take some time to encounter some other Welsh
gems. With a whole host of fascinating and beautiful sights
and historical relics to choose from, you can’t fail
to fall in love with Snowdonia. Once we’ve finished
exploring, we head off to our 2nd night stay at a homely
relaxing hostel and the birthplace of no other, than the
great Laurence of Arabia located right in the heart of Snowdonia
National Park.
Day
3
Start
the day with a good breakfast before we get ready for an
exhilarating journey through the very heart of Snowdonia
National Park. We’ll have plenty of photo opportunities
here and lots of tales to tell. Don’t forget your
camera!
Our
first stop for the day gives us the chance to get amongst
the great outdoors and stretch our legs with a walk to the
idyllic Aber Falls, before we bid a fond farewell to Wales
and re-enter England.
Lunch
will be in another of England’s great Roman cities,
Chester. Visit the ancient amphitheatre where Romans once
threw Christians to the lions before we head off to our
final destination for the day, the stunning Lake District.
We’ll
get an opportunity to take a boat trip on one of the Lakes
or just stroll along the shore and embrace the scenery that
compelled Wordsworth to compose his famous poem ‘The
daffodils’.
Tonight
we sleep in Ambleside alongside the shore
of this country’s largest and most famous lake, LakeWindermere.
Day
4
Rise
and shine this morning and prepare for something special
as we take you on a walk through the enchanting Grizedale
Sculpture Forest, where you can wander amongst the native
woodland whilst checking out some of the country’s
finest natural and totally organic works of art.
Next
we head north, passing through some of the most majestic
landscapes the country has to offer. We’ll visit the
5000 year old Castlerigg stone circle, set against the incredible
backdrop of the mighty Pennines.
It’s
back on the bus as we head north to the outstanding monument
that was built by the Roman Emperor Hadrian to keep the
ferocious Picts from Scotland out of England, ‘Hadrian’s
Wall’. Here we’ll stop for lunch as we learn
about the ancient Roman barrier constructed in 122 AD. Picture
life as a Roman Centurion battling with all their might
to maintain their empire south of this spectacular divide.
After
a few more miles on the road we arrive in Edinburgh.
We’ll fill you in on some of the best places to visit
before letting you free for the night to sample some good
old Scotch hospitality. Explore the magnificent Edinburgh
castle and the Royal Mile and try a wee dram of Scotch whisky.
This city hides a wealth of sights, history, culture and
entertainment as well as some great pubs, clubs and bars.
Just ask us and we’ll help you find them.
Day
5
We
get a chance to see a few more of Scotland’s treasures
this morning before we make our way back down South and
return to England along the scenic coastal road. We’ll
take you to visit Lindisfarne Holy Island and the imposing
Bamburgh castle. See if you can spot the colossal Angel
of the North and learn a bit of the Geordie lingo as we
pass Newcastle.
Then
we’re back on the road and heading for the ancient
and historical city of York
where we’ll show you the inspiring York Minster, one
of England’s most impressive architectural feats.
Afterwards we’ll take you on a haunting ‘ghost
walk’ where you’ll hear some macabre and frightening
stories of this remarkable city. We’ll celebrate our
last night together in style as we get into our togas for
a true Roman banquet.
Day 6
This
morning we’ll make the most of our final day of the
tour as we take a trip to visit Robin Hood country, Sherwood
Forest.
In
Sherwood we’ll visit ‘Major Oak’, said
to be one of the oldest trees in England and which may even
have been around as a mere sapling in the days of yore,
when Robin Hood and his Merry Men were roaming the forest.
From here we’ll get a feeling for what it would have
been like to be an archer in medieval times, as we try our
hand at a spot of Archery in the King’s ancient hunting
grounds of Sherwood Forest.
After
shooting some arrows we visit Rufford Abbey and find out
about what Henry VIII did to the monks of Nottingham. Enjoy
lunch in this old English country park before we get back
on the road and return you to our great capital city and
back to the bustle of Old London Town.
