Snowdonia National Park
Snowdonia,
in our opinion, the finest of Wales’ three national
parks contains some of the most spectacular and magnificent
scenery in the British Isles.
This, the home of the highest mountain in Wales and the
second highest peak in the UK, mount Snowdon, is also the
site of the largest, now abandoned slate mines in the UK.
The slate mine museum, is full of information about the
roots of Welsh local history and culture. Most of the locals
from around here have had their lives built up and knocked
down from the rise and fall of the industry.
The history doesn’t stop there though, the Welsh have
been fighting for their independence from cruel Roman, Saxon,
Viking, Norman and British rulers since the beginning of
the last millennium. Indeed the huge dyke stretching the
length of the country built by the great Saxon King Offa
was intended to keep the fighting Welsh out of beautiful
England.
It’s not all about history though, for the brave amongst
you, Snowdon is an adventurers’ playground. It offers
a wide and varied range of activities to get the adrenaline
pumping and was the training ground of Sir Edmund Hilary
and his team before their ascent on Everest.
Snowdonia itself will leave you in a state of awe, it’s
rugged, striking beauty emanating from every corner of this
spectacular landscape.
